It’s Time: We Must Fight for Assange Now Before It’s Too Late

In recent headlines, the eviction of Julian Assange from the Ecuadorian Embassy has become imminent. After 6 years of political asylum, Lenin Moreno, the new President of Ecuador, has decided that Julian is a “stone in his shoe”, and it appears they are in talks with the UK on how to proceed with his expulsion from the Embassy at which time he will be arrested.  At that time, UK will begin court hearings to extradite him to the US where he would face 45 years for espionage. {He’s not a spy, just a journalist and editor of Wikileaks).  We cannot allow this to happen as it sets a precedent for all future whistleblowers, publishers and journalists who want to expose corruption in our governments!

We must stand up and prepare to take to the streets this violation of free speech and human rights.  If we do nothing, we are as guilty as though who seek to destroy Assange.  By being passive and complacent, we are allowing one of the great geniuses of our time to be extinguished. He is literally becoming another Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King Jr.  By choosing to remain silent, you are choosing the wrong side.  We must fight the good fight regardless of what we think of this man’s political standings or see future generations suffer from tyranny.

Julian Assange has suffered enough. Why, you ask?  He has spent 8 years illegally detained according to 2 UN rulings (without fresh air, sunlight or proper medical care) for a crime he didn’t commit. Fake allegations placed by the Swedish government placed an arrest warrant which led to false imprisonment in the UK and leaks he received from the US forced him into political asylum on June 19th, 2016.  He has not seen his young children for 8 years. Swedish allegations were dropped in May of 2017 yet the British government refuses to allow him to leave without arrest for a supposedly jumping bail when he sought asylum. (According to international law this is allowed to seek refugee status).  US extradition is what he faces if he is arrested.

Julian does not deserve the suffering he has already been through but President Lenin Moreno decided to add to it by “gagging” him on March 28th of this year.  He removed all privileges to internet, phones and visitors leaving Julian in solitary confinement for almost 4 months. According to the UN Nelson Mandela Act, anything over 15 days is considered torture. Why is Assange forced to suffer? Because he told us the truth. It is as simple as that. Whether we liked what he exposed or not, it was simply documents he gained through whistleblowers that are fact.

Now with eviction on the horizon, I must ask you, beg of you even, to help fight this.  We must stand together as a unified team and end this persecution of a truth teller. If we remain silent, his very blood is on our hands.

There are many things we can do to fight. Here is a short list:

1. Write letters to leaders such as President Trump, Vice President Pence, your legislators, PM Theresa May, Lenin Moreno of Ecuador, PM Malcolm Turnbull of Australia and anyone else of importance you can think of. Write letters to newspapers and publishers worldwide.
2. Write articles or blog about it.  Educate people who know nothing about his plight.  Submit articles to local newspapers and even bigger ones!
3. Follow other supporters. Share on FB and tweet on Twitter and any other social media you can think of.  RT memes.
4. Stage a protest at your local government office, state officials office or Parliament or Congress.  Attend vigils in DC that are coming up or in London at the Embassy.  Put on demonstrations in front of UK embassies, US embassies and Ecuadorian embassies.
5. Get with other supporters and pay for a billboard on a major highway.

Whatever you do, we must fight this with everything we have.  Our free speech and rights are at stake, not to mention the life of another human being who did nothing wrong.  Julian did what most would not have the courage or strength. He has endured more than enough.  #ItsTime to fight.
