Why It Is Dangerous For Julian Assange to Come to the United States

There are some clear statements from senior officials in the United States government regarding Julian Assange, including death threats and the State Department’s intentions towards this publisher.  This article will outline some of these things and show you why 1. Julian Assange took political asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in the first place and 2. Why Assange is still in danger even under the Trump’s state department.  Please bear with me as this might get long.

I will start with the beginning and what made Assange choose to seek political asylum from the United States to begin with.  Both of these items can be found here 

The top tweet includes proof that there is a sealed indictment against Assange and that they intend to torture him.  The second one shows their intentions to pass him around from country to country for him to face charges for upwards of 25 years.  I am sure if you have educated yourself on Assange’s plight you know that he simply published documents given to him by whistleblowers and did nothing illegal that other media hasn’t done in the past and are still doing. (Examples are the NY Times and the Washington Post).

Another statement made by Burton in these emails is as follows:

Burton also says he “would pursue [c]onspiracy and [p]olitical [t]errorism charges and declassify the death of a source someone which [he] could link to Wiki” (1074383). Burton’s strategy is to: “[b]ankrupt the arsehole first,” Burton states, “ruin his life. Give him 7-12 yrs for conspiracy.”

“The owner [Julian Assange] is a peacenik. He needs his head dunked in a full toilet bowl at Gitmo.”

This man’s hatred of a journalist and publisher seems to consume him as he spews his animosity for Assange in emails. Upon reading this, one can completely understand Assange’s decision to seek asylum.  He had no other choice as Britian’s agreement with the United States government found here states:

The treaty has been claimed to be one-sided^[3] because it allows the US to extradite UK citizens and others for offences committed against US law, even though the alleged offence may have been committed in the UK by a person living and working in the UK (see for example the NatWest Three), and there being no reciprocal right; and issues about the level of proof required being less to extradite from the UK to the US rather than vice versa.^[4]

Among other provisions Part 2 of the Act: Extradition to category 2 territories (non-European Arrest warrant territories) removed the requirement on the USA to provide prima facie evidence in extraditions from the UK, requiring instead only reasonable suspicion.^[5]

In other words, the United Kingdom is required by the UK-US treaty of 2003 to extradite regardless even if only on suspicion of an illegal act against the US government by any person.  This is incredibly unjust and a despicable act of overreach and use of government power on the United States’ part.

Some will say there is no longer any danger under the Trump administration of this happening.  However, in April of 2017, the Attorney General, Jeff Sessions stated it was a priority to arrest Assange as seen here .  Mike Pompeo, Trump’s Secretary of State, who was CIA director at the time made this statement as seen here :

“WikiLeaks walks like a hostile intelligence service and talks like a hostile intelligence service,” Mr. Pompeo said. 

But Mr. Pompeo’s harshest words were reserved for Julian Assange, calling the WikiLeaks founder a “narcissist” and “a fraud — a coward hiding behind a screen.”

Both of these individuals have incredible power in the US government and seek to destroy Assange.  The current CIA director, Gina Haspel is also known for her torture techniques in the past as seen here

President Trump gave Jeff Sessions the go ahead regarding the arrest of Julian Assange as well as seen here.

The US President performed a U-turn saying “it’s ok with me” if Julian Assange is arrested after praising WikiLeaks during his election campaign.

Add to all this the fact that Trump’s state department coerced the country of Ecuador into silencing Assange on March 28th as well as putting his asylum in danger and you have a detailed scenario of what will happen to the creator of Wikileaks.  There is no question that the safest place for Julian is any where other than the United States of America.

Just My Opinion on Things Assange

I just felt the need to share my thoughts on some things regarding Julian Assange.  First of all, I will talk about the recent offer for immunity for him to testify in a closed door meeting with the Senate Intel Committee and then a few other points going on.

I don’t trust the Senate Intel Committee to share the truth with us or to not use this against Assange. Let me explain why. In 2017, under the Intel Act of 2018 seen here , the SIC voted nearly unanimously that this be included in the Bill to go before Senate:

SEC. 623. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON WIKILEAKS.

It is the sense of Congress that WikiLeaks and the senior leadership of WikiLeaks resemble a non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors and should be treated as such a service by the United States.

Basically, this is a repeat on words from Mike Pompeo when he spoke at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC quoted from NBC News.

“CIA Director Mike Pompeo blistered WikiLeaks in a speech Thursday, calling WikiLeaks a “hostile intelligence service” aided by Russia and accused WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of making “common cause with dictators.”

Mike Pompeo’s blistering statement in fact replicated what the SIC would later add to the Intel Bill.

On top of that, we all know that Feinstein has been an Assange hater from the beginning and she is on that committee.  What good could come from him testifying behind a closed door to this committee?  I fear for his safety on this issue/

Rand Paul is asking for complete immunity from all charges for Julian to testify before the Senate and Congress.  I believe this is a good idea as long as Assange does not have to actually appear there but in a random place outside the United States.  I would fear for his life and that someone would assassinate him.

My feelings on the matter is he should be granted immunity from charges without having to testify.  He has done enough for justice and government transparency.  In fact, he works harder in a day then our entire legislative branch does in a year’s time.  He is a modern day hero and does not deserve the torture and human rights violations he is being put through.  They are slowly martyring an innocent man.

I am also tired of hearing people say “Trust the Plan” or that Trump will free him when the time is right.  The time was right the day Trump took office.  Julian’s health is deteriorating at an alarming rate and he has been in solitary confinement for almost 5 months.  The time to free him was YESTERDAY.  By not speaking on this issue, Trump is as guilty as the administration who saw to it he was detained on fake allegations.  Here are a few quotes making my point:

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. ~Desmond Tutu

In the case of Assange, the US and UK governments are the elephants and Julian is the mouse. Only this elephant intends on squashing the mouse for exposing their evil.

Also in recent days, we have seen that the silencing of Assange is setting a precedent to silence other journalists.  This will continue because people are passive and refuse to fight against injustice.  There are a few thousand supporters around the world who are truly fighting for justice for Julian but there is not enough people raising their voice in his defense.  Please don’t be passive.  Don’t have his blood on your hands.  Stand up and raise hell in his defense.

I will finish this with a quote from Assange.

“Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence and thereby eventually lose all ability to defend ourselves and those we love.”

The Gagging of a Hero

Julian Assange has been gagged since March 28th of 2018 with no access to internet, phone or visitors. As though it is not bad enough that he has been detained illegally against two UN rulings without sunlight, fresh air, proper medical care or proper exercise since 2012, they have silenced him indefinitely, This is completely against his human rights and is considered torture under the UN Nelson Mandela Rules revised in 2017 as seen here link

“Rule 43
1. In no circumstances may restrictions or disciplinary sanctions amount to
torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. The following
practices, in particular, shall be prohibited:
(a) Indefinite solitary confinement;
(b) Prolonged solitary confinement;”

“Rule 44
For the purpose of these rules, solitary confinement shall refer to the
confinement of prisoners for 22 hours or more a day without meaningful human
contact. Prolonged solitary confinement shall refer to solitary confinement for a
time period in excess of 15 consecutive days.
Rule 45
1. Solitary confinement shall be used only in exceptional cases as a last resort,
for as short a time as possible and subject to independent review, and only pursuant
to the authorization by a competent authority. It shall not be imposed by virtue of a
prisoner’s sentence.
2. The imposition of solitary confinement should be prohibited in the case of
prisoners with mental or physical disabilities when their conditions would be
exacerbated by such measures. The prohibition of the use of solitary confinement
and similar measures in cases involving women and children, as referred to in other
United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice, 28
continues to apply.”

Assange, not being a prisoner but a political refugee, should not even have to comprehend solitary confinement, but his access to the outside world has been removed nonetheless.  Political Asylum should be protection, not punishment.

Political asylum refers to the protection given to political refugees from arrest by a foreign jurisdiction. A nation or embassy that affords such protection is also called asylum. 

Note the word protection. Julian Assange sought asylum for protection from being arrested by the US government due to the threat of treason as seen here:

The US government is still seeking the extradition and arrest of Assange and he is still in danger of torture because Gina Haspel the current CIA head is known for her torture techniques in the past. in a Wikileaks tweet, her enjoyment in torture is exposed.

Julian has committed no crime.  They accuse him of espionage simply because he published documents given to him by whistleblowers that exposed their war crimes, government criminal activity and the CIA spying on citizens.  Because all three are illegal for a government to participate in, it seems they are seeking vengeance for Wikileaks exposing them.

6 years ago, the Ecuador government of President Correa gave Julian Assange the status of a political asylee and gave him refuge in the Ecuador Embassy in London.  Under Lenin Moreno, his status is being threatened and according to anonymous sources will be revoked soon.  On August 8th of this year according to telesurtv telesur link  Moreno stated the following:

“The agreement has to be one that defends Mr. Assange’s life, human rights and international norms,” Moreno said.

“If we arrive at an agreement of that sort, we would be delighted to ask Mr. Assange to abandon the embassy and submit himself to the appropriate trial for not appearing before the British courts which is preferable to spending six years locked up in an embassy.”

 

However, he has in the past stated that extradition was okay if Assange’s life was not threatened.  Either way the gagging of Assange is against his human rights and is a form of torture.  (read my article How Solitary Confinement Effects the Mind: Plight of Julian Assange ) The fact is that his isolation must be removed soon or the damage done will be irreversible, making it hard for Julian Assange to come back into society the same person.

It appears that the reason for his gag order according to some is that the US State Dept coerced Ecuador into gagging Assange by threatening their trade agreement and offering them military support along their borders.  As the US is now buying more of it’s oil from Ecuador, it appears to be true.

Lenin Moreno, according to the Guardian, (guardian article ):

“Let’s not forget the conditions of his asylum prevent him from speaking about politics or intervening in the politics of other countries. That’s why we cut his communication,”

However, there was never such an agreement made.  Simply put, not only is Moreno guilty of torturing Julian, violating his human rights, going against international law by gagging him, but also infringing on his freedom of speech and yet, you hear nothing from countries who claim to support all this on this atrocity.

The silencing of Assange is setting a precedent against other independent journalists.  Social Media has begun purging journalists who rely on it to make money and survive.  By gagging Julian, Ecuador has made the oppression of Free Speech and Free Speech a norm.  If Assange is extradited to the US and prosecuted, it will become a precedent for the prosecution of journalists worldwide who expose governments and believe in government transparency.

We, as human beings, cannot let this happen. If we allow the ill-treatment of one, it will affect all of us. Soon, free speech will be a thing of a past.  Journalism will be nothing more than propaganda and a memory.  Speaking your mind about things you disagree with will be a crime that is punishable.  If we do nothing about it, future generations will suffer for our complacency.  Can you live with that? I can’t.

What can we do about this?  It’s simple.  Make our voices heard through letters, phone calls, petitions and demonstrations.  We need to make our leaders in the US, the UK, Ecuador and Assange’s home country of Australia, hear our outcry.  We cannot stop until Julian Assange once again can feel the sun in his face, hold his children in his arms and kiss his dear mother’s cheek.

A Cry For Help to Fight to Free Julian Assange

Julian Assanges health is waning which is causing suffering on his part.  6 years in political asylum in a small room in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London is taking it’s toll on his health.  6 years is a long time for a man to go with no sunlight, no fresh air, no proper exercise or medical care. To top it off, on March 28th, President Lenin Moreno of Ecuador removed his rights to the outside world by taking away his internet access, phone and right to have visitors.  This is something you do to a prisoner, not a political refugee.  The effects of this are irreversible.  He will never be the same man.

Here is a list of medical conditions currently known about Julian Assange:

1. Swelling in the legs or edema caused by lack of proper exercise. Unfortunately, edema is not a good sign. Edema often is a sign of of a more severe condition.
2. A root canal is needed for a tooth that was broken while he was in prison in the UK over six years ago.  The pain must be excruciating.  We all know that if it is infected and isn’t taken care of it can cause serious complications
3. Shoulder pain. He needs tests done to see what is wrong. He has difficulty raising his hands over his shoulders.
4. Persistent cough.  This can be from constantly breathing fresh air or a sign of another problem.
5. Vitamin D deficiency.  Lack of sunlight commonly causes many problems including high blood pressure, depression, heart disease and osteoporosis. This may be the cause of his cough.  He also has loss of bone density which is osteoporosis.
6. Vision issues.  This is caused from not viewing anything further away then perhaps 20 feet.  The furthest view he would have would be the hallway in the Embassy.

Even prisoners are given time outside, exercise and proper medical care.  The UN has ruled this is an illegal detainment and is against his human rights and yet the UK continues to hold him back from leaving over a supposed bail breaking charge.  However, there were never any charges against Assange, only allegations from Sweden and they were dropped in May of 2017.  How can you arrest someone for breaking bail on an issue that no longer exists?  The UK does not want to arrest him for this, they want to hold him for extradition to the US to face espionage charges for publishing documents.

Which is a whole other issue involving Free Press and Free Speech rights which I have discussed in detail before.  Assange is an innocent man who is slowly deteriorating in front of our eyes. We as a human race have to stop this.  He put his life on the line that we would know the truth. He should not be punished for publishing documents that were given to him.  If they prosecute him, then they need to prosecute other media such as the New York Times and Washington Post who have also published the same thing.

By silencing him, they have already set a precedent on silencing other independent journalists and censoring them.  It has begun to happen already with the silencing of people like Alex Jones.  Unlike other journalists however, Assange is suffering.  Many government officials have even called for his death.  Others want to see him tortured as seen in this document Wikileaks posted from the Stratfor-Email log on wikileaks.com

If we do nothing for this man, we are as guilty as they are. He needs everyone who reads this to stand up and fight against this disgusting atrocity against human rights.  If they can do it to him, they can do it to you and me.  They can frame us for a crime, detain us illegally and slowly martyr us for simply telling the truth.  We must end this before it is too late.  Do not walk way from this wicked and cruel act of villainy by a super power overstepping it’s boundaries.

This is just an example of the US government’s overreach and blatant disregard for human life.  Please stand up and fight for this man today.  Pick up the phone.  Write a letter. Sign Petitions. Attend a vigil/demonstration.  Do something!

Advocating for Assange

With the current smear campaign against Julian Assange, the fact that he has been in solitary confinement for over 4 months and the division going on among supporters I knew I had to write.  I have to remind people that Julian’s life is in danger and that fighting is exactly what the intelligence agencies want.  They want us divide so the can conquer the campaign we are waging.  This is war in a sense that many don’t realize.

Julian Assange fought for government transparency.  He believes that people have a right to know what their government is doing behind closed doors.  The US government and other governments around the world often hide from us the devious acts they commit and lie to cover them up.  As a people, we need to hold our governments accountable for the evil they perpetrate.  The only way we can do that is if their deeds are shown to us.  This is where Wikileaks came in.

Assange also stands up for human rights and free speech.  All of this has nothing to do with political standing or lines.  It doesn’t matter if you vote Conservative, Liberal or the Center, Julian and Wikileaks support anyone whose rights are being violated.  So why is there is such division among supporters?  Easy answer.  That’s what our governments want.  United we can conquer and end this war on one man who stood for truth. Divided we will never win the war.

This man’s very life is in danger currently.  President Moreno of Ecuador would love to evict him from the Embassy which would result in his extradition to the United States to face espionage charges which would result in a life sentence.  He would most likely be tortured for information or just because the CIA wants to. Just as Manning was treated terrible and tormented, they would do the same to Assange.  This is a very serious situation and if advocates continue to fight among themselves, he will simple either deteriorate or be extradited.

Recently, I shared my thoughts on Twitter about this dire situation and the smear tactics against fellow Assange advocates.

“The current division among Assange supporters needs to stop NOW! Drop the high school drama, the childish games and unite to #FreeAssange or simply get off the bus. This man’s life is in danger. We have no time to referee fights!”

Julian’s mother, Christine Assange, has routinely stated her concern over people arguing over political bias and supporters who attack others.

 

Many people who have posed as allies of Assange have recently outed themselves as fakes.  True supporters of Julian not only stand up and fight for his freedom but do not include themselves in the bashing and smearing of his character.  We must remain strong even when we do not agree with what others believe.  This man’s very existence is at stake.  It’s not a joke.  We are not supporting a candidate for office, we are fighting for his life!

Here are some things you can do as a Assange warrior:

1. Educate yourself. Know the facts. If you can’t answer with a statement you know is true, refer a person to justice4assange.com or iamwikileaks.com.
2. Write letters to leaders, newspaper editors, legislators, the DOJ or the current branch of law enforcement in your country.  Here is an example letter with many addresses you can write. Letter and Addresses

4. Sign petitions.  Write petitions.
5. Make the Call.  Call your leaders and demand they work to free him
6. Share memes on social media.
7. Write articles. Write letters and share on social media.
8. Donate to his legal fund to help pay his legal fees at Legal Fund link

It takes five minutes to call and leave a message if you cannot do anything else.  A postage stamp and a few minutes to write a letter.  We need to fight now before it’s too late.  He deserves this.  We cannot watch as our governments overthrow our rights as individuals.
