Chelsea Manning was imprisoned for 62 days before her release. She was incarcerated for refusing to testify in a grand jury against Julian Assange. However, she must appear before a new grand jury May 16th.
Manning refused to testify stating that all evidence was given in her trial and would not go against her principles. According to sputnik news:
This is disgusting. Manning deserves a medal for standing up to corruption in the U.S. government. She served 7 years previously for releasing documents to Wikileaks and her sentence was shortened by President Obama. During that 7 years she was tortured.
It is obvious that the U.S. government has more charges in store for Julian Assange who was given 50 weeks in prison for a breach of bailin the U.K. If charged under the antiquated Espionage Act, Assange could face the death penalty and most likely be tortured as Manning was.
The whole event is a monstrous attack on free speech and the accountability for war crimes. The U.S. intends to use both as an example to silence whistleblowers and publishers.
When you think about injustice, you can point your finger at the U.S. and the U.K. who are an illustration of corruption. God help us all.
