Spanish journalist Jose Martin Santos and an unnamed computer programmer were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly trying to sell videos, audios and documents of Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy in London according to Fox News. Both were arrested in Alicante about 250 miles from Madrid.
Santos was taken into custody after trying to blackmail Wikileaks for 3.2 million dollars. He previously was convicted of fraud in a seperate case. He told Wikileaks editor if Wikileaks did not pay them the money the videos would be released to media thereafter.
Hraffson and Assange’s lawyer immediately went to the prosecutor’s office in Spain and filed charges on April 2nd.
Currently Assange is serving 50 weeks in Belmarsh Prison in the UK for breaching bail when he sought asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy. He is fighting extradition to the U.S. as well.
