Ola Bini is a Swedish software programmer and internet privacy activist who Ecuador arrested for being associated with Julian Assange. Ecuador allegedly claims Bini was working to destabilize their government and collaborating with Wikileaks. However, in a recent appeal the judge denied his freedom though there is little to no evidence of Bini doing anything illegal. This is a case of guilty by association.
According to the article seen here on telesurenglish.net:
“For several years now, one of the key members of this WikiLeaks organization and a person close to Mr. Julian Assange has lived in Ecuador, and we have sufficient evidence that he has been collaborating with the destabilization attempts against the government,” Romo said at a Thursday evening press conference.
She alleged that Bini had worked with “two Russian hackers” also living in Ecuador, though it’s still unclear if others have been apprehended in the case. Romo said that descriptions of the persons were being given to prosecutors.
Former President Correa called Ola Bini a “political prisoner”. Bini was held for 30 hours before the prosecution accused him of “assaulting the integrity of computers systems” and claimed he was dealing with Russian hackers.
According to a support account on Twitter for Bini:
Ecuador is known for their terrible prison conditions. He needs support as this case has literally no evidence to support it and it is another case of Moreno’s injustice. The President of Ecuador is no more than a U.S. puppet and a dictator wannabe. Ecuador needs to take their country back from their tyrannical leader.
