In a news conference this morning, Jeff Sessions announced his intentions to crackdown on leakers and stated “Leakers Will Be Prosecuted.” He stated this a warning to the past leakers and the would be leakers of classified information to the public. Add this to Pompeo’s attack on freedom of speech and free press and We The People have a problem folks. I am not talking about those within the Trump administration who are dropping fake files to every news site that will take them, I am talking about true whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and Sean Rich.
We elected these officials to do their job, not to violate our First Amendment laws. True whistleblowers should be protected from this type of persecution. Of course if you dump a fake memo or dossier out there you should be prosecuted for perjury because it was untrue. If the United States is planning a strike against North Korea, this should not be leaked either. However, if the documents show proof of government corruption, the public should know.
The publisher of any leak should not be prosecuted unless the publishing of these documents led directly to the death of military personnel. Proof of this must be made public as well. If it were not for publishers such as Wikileaks, we would not know about the DNC and Podesta emails or the constant spying our government does. We The People have a right to know what our government is up to. In the case of military strikes, we should have the information available as soon as it is safe to do so. Transparency is key.
I believe that most of the recent leaks in the Trump administration were done by globalists, socialists and anti-democracy individuals in order to undermine the Constitution and make Trump look like a fool. Jeff Sessions has a right to go after these people as undermining our Republic is traitorous. When I say undermining, I mean trying to take down a standing President by dropping fake documents to make him look criminal. (For ex: fake Trump dossier, other fake newspaper articles, etc)
I wouldn’t really call fake articles leaking, I call that lying plain and simple. Whistleblowing is an all together different thing. For instance, it has been stated that Seth Rich leaked the DNC emails. This was a case of whistleblowing because the DNC was doing something criminal which was fixing the election. By leaking this information, he exposed corruption. This should not be illegal, but the whistleblower should be protected. So should Wikileaks in this case for publishing these emails. Same with whoever gave the Podesta emails to Wikileaks. This also was whistleblowing.
The person(s) who brought to light the fake Trump dossier however, should be prosecuted for dumping it into the public eye because it was misleading and a lie. The organization that publishes these documents should verify that they are real and not fake as Wikileaks does.
Right now, I think Jeff Sessions has bigger fish to fry than fake leakers. He needs to be investigation the Clinton Cartel, Obama, Rice and Comey instead of shirking his duties and promises to bring them down. Trump needs to push Sessions to do his duty for the We The People and ask for a special prosecutor in that case. Also, let’s stop violating the first amendment with threats to people who may reveal the truth.
